After the relentless rush of Christmas and the New Year festivities, don't you just want to sink into a comfortable chair, pull a blanket over your head and forget the world exists for a bit? We certainly do. If that sounds like you, then a winter coastal break is precisely what your mind, body and soul are crying out for. The good news? We've discovered that winter is genuinely our favourite time to visit our holiday lets in Swanage, Dorset and Porth, Newquay, Cornwall. Here's why you should consider joining us for a winter escape.

1. Escape the Noise and Embrace Pure Calm

Let's be honest, January and February demand a proper reset. After the chaos of the festive season, you need to find your equilibrium again, and there's no better place to do that than beside the sea. There's something deeply restorative about staring out across the vastness of the ocean. It's as though the rhythmic sound of the waves gently washes away all the stress, worry and overwhelm you've accumulated.

Both Belvedere Lodge in Swanage and 6 Porth Sands in Porth offer spectacular, uninterrupted sea views. Spend your mornings watching the sun rise over the water, your afternoons gazing out at the horizon, and your evenings witnessing the sky transform into shades of gold and pink. It's the kind of mental reset that no spa day or meditation app could ever replicate. Your mind and spirit will genuinely thank you for this gift of tranquillity.

2. Blow away the cobwebs with Fresh Sea Air and Bracing strolls

Whilst your mind needs rest, your body needs movement. One of winter's greatest gifts is the opportunity to wrap up warmly and stroll on the beach. There's something uniquely invigorating about a beach stroll when the wind is fresh, the air is crisp, and you're dressed in proper cold-weather gear.

The negative ions you inhale whilst walking along the beach actually have measurable physiological benefits, they increase serotonin levels (the hormone that regulates mood) and enhance your body's ability to absorb oxygen. Whether that's scientific fact or folklore, one thing's certain: a bracing coastal walk followed by hot chocolate and a warming drink in a local café or pub is utterly restorative. You'll return to your holiday apartment glowing, energised and ready to properly rest. The combination of gentle exercise and fresh sea air is one of winter's best kept secrets.

3. Witness Dramatic Coastal Beauty at Its Most Magnificent

Winter transforms our coastlines into something genuinely spectacular. The Jurassic Coast surrounding Swanage is remarkable at any time of year, but in winter, the dramatic light and moody skies elevate it to something truly awe-inspiring. Similarly, the North Cornish cliffs around Porth showcase nature's raw power most dramatically during the winter months.

If you're a proficient surfer with the right winter equipment, you're in for a treat. Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay, both just two miles from 6 Porth Sands, attract some of the world's best winter swells. Watching the legendary Cribber break off Fistral is genuinely unforgettable, especially if you're doing so from the cosy comfort of the Headland Hotel by a warm fire, nursing an afternoon tea. If, like us, you prefer to admire the water from dry land, you'll still find endless visual drama as enormous winter waves pummel the cliff bases. Just be sensible about where you stand, cliff-edge photography isn't worth the risk!

Over in Dorset, Swanage Bay offers a slightly more serene setting, but venture out to Durlston Head or Old Harry's Rocks and you'll witness equally spectacular wave action. Winter's dramatic seascapes create the kind of views that make you understand why people are willing to live by the coast year round.

4. Take Advantage of Exceptional Value for Money

Here's the reality of winter holiday pricing: a week at either Belvedere Lodge or 6 Porth Sands costs roughly half the price or less of a peak summer season stay. When you think about what you're getting, stunning properties in prime coastal locations with unbeatable views, it's an absolute no-brainer financially.

But we want to make it even better for you. Sign up to our email list and you'll receive a discount code for 5% off your first booking. Better still, you'll be added to our mailing list for exclusive special offers and discounts throughout the year. These aren't generic promotional emails, we share genuine deals and seasonal offers designed to help you bag bargains whenever you fancy a coastal escape. Winter represents remarkable value for money, and we're committed to making sure you get the very best deal possible.

5. Indulge in Proper Winter Comfort Food

There's nothing quite like winter as an excuse to embrace comfort food. Whether it's warming stews that simmer all afternoon, traditional Sunday roasts, decadent cakes and desserts, or something completely different like a fully loaded burrito, winter is the season for high-calorie tastiness that warms you from the inside out.

Both Belvedere Lodge and 6 Porth Sands are equipped with thoroughly modern, fully equipped kitchens. And when we say fully equipped, we mean it: food processors, blenders, slow cookers, air fryers, even Yorkshire pudding trays are all waiting for you. We've genuinely tried to ensure that whether you fancy warming up a microwave meal or preparing an elaborate Sunday roast, you'll have everything you need.

Of course, the local areas surrounding both properties offer magnificent eateries with wonderful offerings. But honestly? Sometimes we prefer to stay put, snuggled down in a warm and cosy environment, cooking our own winter favourites. There's something deeply satisfying about preparing proper food in a well-appointed kitchen, then settling in to enjoy it with a view of the sea.

6. Experience Ultimate Winter Cosiness and Comfort

If comfort is your priority, and let's face it, winter demands it, you won't be disappointed with what we offer. Both properties have been thoughtfully designed with cosiness as a core principle. Blankets abound, cushions are plentiful, and the combi boilers are charged and ready to deliver unlimited hot water for luxurious baths whenever you fancy them.

Imagine this: it's a winter's evening, the wind is howling outside, and you're wrapped in layers of soft blankets, sipping something warm, watching a storm roll in across the sea. That's the kind of experience we've designed our properties to deliver. The furnishings are soft and welcoming, and everything about these spaces screams comfort and care.

Storm watching from the comfort of your holiday let, snuggled down with someone you love (or perfectly happy on your own), is genuinely one of winter's most magical experiences. It's heart-warming, spectacular, and precisely as cosy as it sounds. You'll find yourself not wanting to leave.

7. Embrace the Joy of Wild Winter Coastal Walks

Finally, let's talk about one of winter's greatest privileges: the chance to explore the coastline almost entirely alone. Obviously, we need to be sensible here, if the wind is howling and gusting at hurricane force, a clifftop walk probably isn't your best idea. But on crisp winter days, when the light is clear and the air is bracing, grab the opportunity to enjoy some genuinely glorious, awe-inspiring views.

As the legendary fell walker Alfred Wainwright once said, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." Bundle up properly in appropriate winter gear, pull on your waterproof walking boots, and head out. The special benefit of winter walking is the blessed absence of crowds. Venture half a mile away from a car park and you'll very likely encounter nobody else at all. The entire spectacular landscape feels like it's been laid out purely for you and this moment. That sense of solitude, combined with the majesty of the winter coast, is genuinely hard to beat.

Your Winter Escape Awaits

Winter coastal breaks are genuinely fabulous, and honestly, they're our favourite time to visit our holiday apartments. We'd genuinely love you to experience it and see what you think. It's different from a summer break, quieter, more introspective, perhaps even more restorative.

So here's our invitation: escape the post-festive frenzy, trade the chaos for calm, and discover why winter by the coast isn't a compromise, it's an upgrade. Whether you choose Belvedere Lodge in Swanage or 6 Porth Sands in Porth, your winter reset awaits.
